SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: Create an original print ad promoting a product in the supermarket or drugstore that treats a condition people are uncomfortable talking about—especially around the dinner table—whether it’s for hemorrhoids, or diarrhea, abdominal gas, or any other touchy subject. (You’re free to choose whichever product you wish as long as it’s sold in a drugstore or supermarket.) These products need to be advertised for them to sell, but their subject matter must be handled tactfully. The power of the metaphor lies in its ability to communicate indirectly. The goal is to use a metaphor to express the message INDIRECTLY and SYMBOLICALLY.
